As one of its first employees, Stephanie Sherman watched DraftKings rise from a daily fantasy firm run out of co-founder Paul Liberman’s house to a multibillion-dollar company, among the leaders in sports betting and still involved with fantasy sports.
On January 25, the company announced Sherman’s appointment as chief marketing officer, in charge of all marketing functions. She had served as senior vice president of marketing, according to CDC Gaming Reports.
“Since our early days as an insurgent daily fantasy business, Stephanie has been a driving force of our growth and contributed hugely to DraftKings becoming a household name and a global, multi-product digital entertainment company enjoyed by millions of consumers,” said DraftKings North America co-founder and president Matt Kalish in a statement. “Stephanie’s consistently strong performance has earned the respect of the entire DraftKings team, and she is recognized as one of our industry’s most dynamic marketing minds.”
Industry trade publication, Adweek, has named Sherman one of the most powerful women in sports for the last two years.
Sherman focused on customer acquisition and direct response marketing, helping to move DraftKings forward as it expanded into daily fantasy, sports betting, online casino, and digital collectibles. She will now oversee brand and agency campaigns, media buying and influencer strategy.
“When I started at DraftKings nine years ago, there was a genuine and collective sense that we were building something special, and zooming out to today, that has been validated more than I could have ever imagined,” said Sherman in a statement. “For all the accomplishments we’ve celebrated and adversity we’ve overcome, I take on this new position knowing there is still so much opportunity ahead along with brilliant people ready to deliver.”
Prior to joining DraftKings, Sherman managed acquisition marketing for Vistaprint, which employed DraftKings’ co-founders Kalish, Liberman and Jason Robins.
