DraftKings Gets Late Start in Ontario Sportsbook Market

DraftKings is expected to go live in Ontario with its sportsbook by the end of May. This comes six weeks after the Canadian province launched its competitive sports betting market.

The company was added to the list of AGCO-approved operators on May 13. So far, 26 companies have received licenses.

In a recent call with analysts, DraftKings CEO Jason Robins said, “Due to the presence of gray-market operators, many of which have been present in Ontario for several years, we do not believe that the timing of our launch will have any impact on the share we are able to achieve in that province.”

The company doesn’t appear to expect big things from its entry into the Ontario market. Its 2023 forecasts call for “minimal net revenue” from its Ontario venture. DraftKings has also removed its Daily Fantasy Sports product from the market.
