DraftKings held a soft opening for its Foxwoods Resort Casino sportsbook on November 13. It replaced the temporary sportsbook that opened in September. An official ribbon cutting will be held December 8.
The 12,000 square foot, two story permanent location is within the Great Cedar area of the property. It offers both live-bet windows and kiosks. TVs line the walls with a 50 by 30 foot giant screen, VIP rooms, two bars and full dining.
Jason Guyot, president and CEO of Foxwoods said in a statement, “Since launching retail sports betting at Foxwoods in September, the demand has been strong and continues to grow. … With the NFL season in its peak, there is nothing more thrilling than taking a shot with your favorite team, and we’re honored to deliver this new kind of betting experience where guests and fans can get in on the action, all in one place.”
Guyot said the casino is still recovering from the effects of the pandemic. It hired 55 new employees for the sportsbook and still needs to fill up to 350 openings elsewhere in the resort.
He told the New London Day, “It’s been a tough 18 months, having to lay off so many people and now trying to replace them. We compare ourselves to 2019, pre-pandemic, and we’re still not back to those levels.”
