Sports-betting provider DraftKings and the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) have signed a licensing deal that will enable DraftKings to expand its blockchain offerings.
Beginning in 2022 DraftKings’ NFT marketplace will begin selling “gamified NFTs,” (NFTs are “non-fungible tokens” such as one-of-a-kind artworks that are only online). In DraftKings’ case they will be digital collectibles that carry the names, images and likenesses of active NFL players—and which can be bought and sold.
DraftKings launched its NFT Platform, DraftKings Marketplace this summer. The marketplace sells collectibles featuring the faces of Tom Brady, Tiger Woods and Derek Jeter, among others. It has hosted hundreds of thousands of transactions of about $20 million so far.
