The East African nation of Tanzania has seen dramatic increase in the number of gaming companies that are operating in the country—which has led to an expected 18 percent increase in taxes of gaming for this fiscal year.
Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT) projects that tax collections will rise from Sh33.6 billion collected the previous year to Sh39 billion this year.
The number of gaming companies investing in the country has reportedly grown from five to 26 in the past three years. James Mbalwe, acting director general of GBT, told World Casino Directory “We are optimistic of increased revenues as currently there are four foreign and local companies that have shown interest in Tanzania. All the processes have already been completed with only a few issues remaining to be ironed out. We’re optimistic that in the next year they will begin their operations.”
The increase is driven by the access to online betting and increased sports gaming, he said. Casino gaming is also a growth industry in the country, said Mbalwe.
