The Dutch Gaming Authority has signed a partnership agreement with social media platform Facebook to fight “dipping” or illegal lotteries formed on the platform.
KSA will report the illegal online lotteries to Facebook, which will then act to remove them.
The regulator said it has received numerous reports of the lotteries and launched at least 13 investigations. Both the KSA and Facebook said in a release that they “did not wish to provide an opportunity for illegal activities.”
KSA said its collaboration with Facebook has already removed several groups which have been promoting illegal lotteries. This approach, according to the KSA, “is the fastest and most effective way to stop violations of the Gambling Act.”
Under Dutch law, lotteries may only be offered via a licensed operator and donate 40 percent of proceeds to charity.
