The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma recently announced the Bordertown building will reopen February 1, 2015, in West Seneca, Oklahoma. Chief Glenna Wallace said, “Last winter, some pipes burst in Bordertown and flooded the place. But we had insurance and now that the insurance money has been paid, we are in the midst of remodeling for our new facility.”
Bordertown will feature 600 slots, entertainment venues, a chuck wagon restaurant and an 800-seat banquet area, all with a country-western theme. The facility will create 65 jobs in the Seneca area. Combined with 500 jobs at the tribe’s two-year old Indigo Sky casino, more than 600 tribal employees will be working at the two properties. “We don’t have any trouble getting workers. And we are glad to add these jobs to the area,” Wallace said.
Bordertown entertainment will include a bucking bull on a sawdust arena, boxing matches, tuff man contests, jackpot bull riding and other “macho” events.
General Manager Rick Smith said, “There will be lots of crossover business” between Bordertown and Indigo Sky. “We will use the hotel and other facilities at Indigo Sky. The two sites will complement each other very well. We anticipate a different cliental at Bordertown. A different age group and a different interest.”
