EGBA Urges More Cross-Border Collaboration

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) is calling for more cross-border cooperation between members to avoid having stricter regulations imposed on them just as the industry is starting to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The association’s Secretary General, Maarten Haijer, wrote in a blog post that the industry should adopt a “stronger culture of responsibility and cooperation,” adding, “As companies and associations, we all need to work closer together towards a stronger culture of responsibility and cooperation so that the industry is better organized and represented.”

He said there are too many operators who sit at the sidelines, “don’t contribute to the representation of the sector, and choose not to participate in trade associations like EGBA.”

He urged operators to join a trade association to be better represented and to form relationships with “wider stakeholders” and even critics of the industry.

Gaming companies should also contribute towards developing industry codes of conduct that benefit society as a whole, as well as engaging with the authorities and politicians that oversee them.
