The legislature of El Salvador has ratified an agreement with the government of Canada to create a new national electronic lottery. The vote was 64 to 14 in favor, with 11 abstentions.
The Central American country hopes to raise funds to support municipalities, health care and schools. The electronic lottery will join the existing National Charity Lottery (LNB). It will be operated by the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC.)
Bobby Kwon, Foreign Relations Committee deputy and president of the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), said the pact would allow the country “to strengthen its diplomatic ties and expand in the world of technology” with the goal of improving “education and health for both countries.”
10 percent of total income from the new lottery will go to municipalities, 10 percent will go to lottery vendors and the rest will go towards public health, education and social assistance.
