Eldorado Resorts and the Cordish Companies recently announced a joint venture to create Live! Resorts Pompano at Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park in Pompano Beach, Florida. The 2 million square foot expansion would include a 215,000 square foot casino with 750 slots and electronic table games plus 30 table games, as well as nationally recognized restaurants, entertainment venues, 445,000 square feet of retail space and a Topgolf facility.
Pompano Park racetrack, which now houses the slots casino, will be converted into a lake and open space with walking and biking trails. It’s the state’s only harness racing venue.
Pompano Beach Vice Mayor Barry Moss said, “It will be a big shot in the arm for southwest Pompano. The plans are ambitious. The Cordish Companies have made a very favorable impression, principally because of their track record, which is very successful.”
Cordish documents indicate the project will have a local economic impact of $200 million “with an additional $148 million in economic impact from construction, including approximately 960 direct and indirect construction jobs, plus more than 500 permanent new jobs for local and regional residents.”
At a recent public meeting attended by more than 300 people, Cordish Companies Chief Executive Officer David Cordish said he hopes to break ground in spring 2020, adding the project will take nearly a decade to complete. The hotel would be developed first, then the casino expansion would begin, he said.
Reno-based Eldorado Resorts acquired the Pompano Beach property two years ago when it bought Isle of Capri Casinos and its 13 resorts for $1.7 billion. The company operates 26 gambling-oriented properties in 12 states.
Baltimore-based Cordish Companies, founded in 1910, is a real estate development and entertainment operating company with destinations throughout the U.S.
