Election Betting

Untold sums of money are bet on U.S. election outcomes via offshore books and illegal bookies, and Jimmy Vaccaro (l.), a Las Vegas oddsmaker would like to see it made legal and become what he says would be the biggest book ever.

Betting on elections is illegal in the United States, but the South Point Casino in Las Vegas has posted speculative odds for the fun of it.

The casino can’t take any bets on the odds, but South Point Oddsmaker Jimmy Vaccaro told CNN he would like to see it made legal, especially since illegal wagers already are being made on election results.

“What is wrong with it?” Vaccaro said. “Why send a lot of this money offshore or to illegal bookies when we could regulate it and tax it and everybody can make some money doing it properly?”

Vaccaro said handicapping the presidential election would biggest the single biggest book in history and “make the Super Bowl look like a high school football game.”

Donald Trump and Joe Biden are Vaccaro’s picks to win their respective GOP and Democratic presidential nominations. He did not pick an overall winner.
