California’s Wilton Rancheria announced July 18 that it has moved up the opening of its $500 million Sky River Casino in Elk Grove to September, a month sooner than had been expected.
The casino, which will have 2000 slots, 80 table games and a food plaza with 17 restaurants, is being built at the site of the former “Ghost Mall” a never-completed outlet mall. Previously, Wilton Rancheria Tribal Chairman Jesus Tarango had said the casino, which broke ground about a year ago, would open in October. The tribe has about 900 members.
Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen hailed the sooner opening: “This is great news for Elk Grove and the Wilton Rancheria tribe,” adding, “The early opening of Sky River Casino means new jobs and a major tourism draw for the city. I wish them tremendous success. Congratulations to the tribal leaders, members and ancestors that paved the way for this historical moment.”
The tribe’s partner in the project is Boyd Gaming, which has a management contract.
Sky River Casino president and CEO Chris Gibase commented, “Sky River Casino is an entertainment destination that will include a wide array of dining experiences that are sure to excite foodies throughout the area.” He added, “The property features cutting-edge technology that allows for an innovative approach to our loyalty program, Sky River Rewards, designed to create a memorable experience for our guests.”
