Ellis Park Racing and Gaming in Henderson, Kentucky announced plans to open a new historical horse racing (HHR) machine venue in the Towne Square Mall development in Owensboro, 30 miles east of the racetrack.
Ellis Entertainment Owensboro will include a new 60,000-square-foot racing and gaming destination with a wide selection of HHR machines, a simulcast betting and viewing area, and a new race and sports-themed restaurant.
Construction on the new facility is planned to begin in early 2022 with an anticipated opening date in early 2023.
The plans follow the Kentucky legislature’s passage of a bill in February legalizing HHR games, after the state Supreme Court had declared them illegal.
