Emerald Island Casino in Henderson, Nevada has secured initial approval from local planning authorities to proceed with a planned expansion of the property.
The Henderson Planning Commission approved the proposal following a short discussion at a public hearing. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, no one spoke for or against the plans at the meeting.
Emerald Island is hoping to add 14,500 square feet to the property and modify the exterior of the building. Plans by specialist land use consultant Michael Tassi were presented to the commission.
Henderson City Council will decide on final approval during a hearing on November 4.
What Could Emerald Island Look Like?
Should the expansion go ahead, the casino property would add a number of new features. These include covered outdoor patios, integrated planters for landscaping and sitting areas, canopies and awnings at entries and a brick veneer façade.
The venue also submitted plans for a new-look parking area with 133 spaces. City codes in Henderson require such properties to have at least 125 parking spaces.
It is not clear if any changes would be made to the venue’s gaming space. Emerald Island also stopped short of setting out how much it will spend on the project.
Previously known as Pot O’ Gold Casino, the venue reopened under the Emerald Island name in May 2003. In January 2024, the venue and the nearby Rainbow Club Casino were sold to ECL Water Street, owned by Ronald Winchell and Marc Falcone.
