Emerald Resort Breaks Ground in Philippines

The $341 million Emerald Resort and Casino in Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island has officially broken ground. It’s the first integrated resort in the Philippines to be built outside Luzon, the country’s largest island.

The 1 million Emerald Resort and Casino, the first integrated resort in the Philippines to be developed outside Luzon, has broken ground. The IR in Lapu-Lapu City is to be built by Udenna Development Corp. and will cover 12.5 hectares (31 acres) of beachfront property and will be complete in 2020, according to Inside Asian Gaming.

“We hope that in two or three years’ time we will be here again to witness the opening of this project,” said Andrea Domingo, chairwoman of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. “We hope this will be a precedent for all integrated resorts outside of Entertainment City in Manila because in Cebu City, there will be a world-class resort casino that is worth taking a look.” UDC Chairman and CEO Dennis Uy said the project “will play a vital role in transforming Mactan into a premiere tourist destination with a vibrant and thriving economy.”
