English Joins Global Market Advisors

Veteran gaming executive John English has joined Global Market Advisors as a partner and managing director of GMA’s new sports betting and technology division. In addition, GMA has released a white paper on U.S. sports betting.

Global Market Advisors (GMA), a hospitality consulting firm serving the gaming, sports betting, and lodging industries announced last week that John English is joining the firm as a partner, serving as managing director of GMA’s new sports betting and technology division.

“John is an expert and pioneer in the sports betting industry. His knowledge and insights are invaluable; a commodity to which very few individuals or companies have access to. John will be a great asset to the GMA team as sports betting continues to evolve globally,” said Steve Gallaway, GMA’s managing partner. [

English most recently served as president of WEBE Gaming, a global operator of sports books, social gaming and lottery products. He served with American Wagering when the company became the first entity to receive a license in Nevada for mobile sports wagering. William Hill later purchased the company. He has also worked for Betfair and Gaming Arts.

“I have long respected GMA for the quality of their content and reputation garnered among clients and business associates of mine. As my consulting practice continued to grow, GMA was the group with whom I wanted to partner with and I am excited to join the team,” said English.

Meanwhile, the company also announced the release of a white paper entitled, “An Examination of Sports Betting in America & Forecast of Revenues by State

“With SCOTUS hearing arguments on the Christie v. NCAA case this Monday, sports betting in the U.S. is on the forefront of the discussion not only in the gaming industry but among the general public,” said Gallaway. “While the market has the potential to generate between $29.2 billion to $138.0 billion in wagers, it must be regulated and taxed properly to allow it to succeed while addressing illegal sports betting.”

GMA’s Sports Betting division produced the white paper to educate readers on the current status of the sports betting market in the U.S., the process being undertaken to overturn PASPA, hurdles the industry will face, political climate, and revenue potential of sports betting on a state by state basis. Key issues are also addressed such as lotteries vs. land-based gaming as operators, Europe’s influence, positions of professional sports leagues, and the reality of existing widespread activities and attractiveness of illegal sports betting. John English was a key participant in preparing the paper.
