Robert Hoskin (l.), Entain’s chief governance officer, has defended the changes the company made to ensure sustainability of safer gambling practices in the wake of a major regulatory settlement.

Entain Defends Safe Gambling Changes

Faced with questions about its safe gambling sustainability efforts at last week’s Entain Sustain event, Entain Chief Governance Officer Robert Hoskin reiterated the company’s commitment to safer gambling.

The questions surrounded a record £17 million regulatory settlement surrounding sustainability efforts the company made in August.

In an interview with iGaming Business, Hoskin stressed that the settlement involved issues that occurred before the company renewed its commitment to safer gambling, for which it has received multiple industry awards.

“I can see why (the settlement) raised an eyebrow, but it relates to a prior period,” Hoskin said. “And in the period since then, we’ve made huge changes to our systems and processes. So it’s very much a legacy issue. Unfortunately, it took two years to bring it to a conclusion.

“We’ve dealt with the six issues identified coming out of the process. We’ve dealt with them, and closed those gaps and we can move on. And I’m happy for people to ask questions about it, but it does need to be seen in the full context of the situation.”
