London-based Entain PLC, one of the largest sports wagering companies in Europe, was recommended for a temporary sportsbook license in Nevada. The state Gaming Control Board declined to grant the permanent, unrestricted gaming license the company sought.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the board members granted the two-year temporary license with any consideration of permanent licensing contingent upon the supplier terminating any relationships worldwide with unlicensed sportsbooks. The unanimous decision directs the company to exit any illegal markets in which it operates by May 2024. Company officers have said 99 percent of Entain’s business is with regulated operators.
“We want to be the world leader in every aspect of sports wagering,” Entain Chairman Barry Gibson said in a presentation to the Control Board. “We wanted to be the most exciting and trusted operator in North America.”
The board’s unanimous recommendation will be voted on by the Nevada Gaming Commission on May 20.
