The publicly-traded Esports Entertainment Group (EEG) has received an order approving a transactional waiver from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE). The waiver allows EEG to legally accept bets in the Garden State.
EEG launched its esports betting platform VIE.gg on January 25. Bettors can wager on a variety of esports, including popular titles like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends and Dota 2.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to be the first esports-dedicated operator to be granted the right to commence business in New Jersey,” said company CEO Grant Johnson. “On behalf of our entire team, I would like to thank the Division of Gaming Enforcement for their approval of our platform and the trust they have placed in our company.”
According to Johnson, global esports betting could exceed $205 billion in revenues by 2027. “We are thrilled to be playing such an important role in this fast-growing market with the launch of our first esports wagering offering in the United States.”
Last July, New Jersey lawmakers passed legislation in July 2021 to include esports betting in the state’s legal sports betting industry. Licensed operators like EEG can accept bets up to $100 with a potential winning bet of up to $500. The DGE could increase that maximum in the future.
