ESports global revenue for 2017 was estimated to be $696 million and is expected to more than double to $1.5 billion by 2020, according to Newzoo, a market intelligence firm.
The Asia Pacific region accounted for 51 percent of global eSport enthusiasts in 2017 and is expected to lead further growth, the report said.
The report also found that combined, China and North America should generate 56 percent of global eSports revenues in 2018 for a total of $509 million.
There are 2.2 billion active gamers in the world and 1 billion of them spend money on consoles, games, digital subscriptions, and in-game and in-app purchases, according to NewZoo’s 2017 Global Games Market Report.
