Eureka Casino Resort in Mesquite, Nev. has announced it will undergo a sweeping renovation and expansion project that officials say will total $100 million.
The casino’s Executive Chairman Greg Lee told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the project will be split into two phases—the first portion will include a $40 million renovation of Eureka’s 212 hotel rooms and its 40,285-square-foot casino. That work is expected to be complete by early 2027 at the latest.
“(This is) really time for us to reimagine what we would build today if we were starting from scratch, and what we want our facility to be 30 years hence,” Lee told the Review-Journal.
The next phase will include new construction of retail shopping areas, condominiums and apartments on about 35 acres of land behind the existing property. That land, the company said, is currently only used for fireworks shows.
No timeline was given for the second phase, and Eureka CEO Andre Carrier said logistical steps with regard to planning and land prep will be undertaken during the first phase.
The property first opened in 1997 and last expanded in 2004. The casino’s parent company expanded into New Hampshire in 2019 by converting a former dog racetrack into a casino named The Brook.
Interestingly, Eureka sold to employees in 2015, meaning it is the only employee-owned casino in the state.
“We have an obligation not just to the person who’s 10 years away from retirement and using those (employee stock ownership plan) shares, we also have an obligation to that person who’s 21 years old,” Carrier told the Review-Journal. “We’re thinking about our business over the longer term.”
