The Associated Press and FanDuel have agreed to an arrangement where the press outlet will cite gambling odds provided by the sportsbook in its sports coverage. In return, the Associated Press gets paid.
The announcement makes no mention of what that payment is and for how long, other than specifying multi-year. Nor did the AP indicate how often it has accepted payment for putting in content in its stories.
The odds will appear in related sports features, game previews and more. Also, FanDuel widgets will be present in the sports section of APNews.com and elsewhere, according to Sportico. Officials with the AP say the news service will have editorial say so on all content, not to mention the consistency that comes with using FanDuel odds exclusively.
“As sports betting becomes more commonplace, our customers are increasingly asking for this kind of information,” said Barry Bedlan, AP’s global director of text and new markets products.
FanDuel sees the AP as “the ideal source for us to disseminate our industry-leading sportsbook’s proprietary odds and content,” said Adam Kaplan, the company’s GM and VP of content.
