FanDuel has voluntarily taken itself out of Connecticut’s daily fantasy market by letting its provisional license lapse February 27.
FanDuel confirmed to LSR that its contests won’t return until the approach of the NFL season. According to the company, a change in state regulations meant FanDuel could not offer paid-entry contests.
“The new regs required us to make some changes to our DFS platform that need engineering time to complete.”
A new DFS license will not be required as the new licenses for all three gaming options are rolled into one.
But Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protections denied that any regs were changed. Both FanDuel and DraftKings had issues with the apps, which the regulators treat like gambling apps.
The primary issue is a 30-minute pop-up requirement designed to get the players to take a break and log out. The two-element authentication also is a problem.
Connecticut is the only state that requires this for DFS, which makes it a bit harder to implement given the single platform used across the country,
DraftKings daily fantasy app is still available for Connecticut players.
