Flutter Entertainment-owned FanDuel has announced it is to close its retail sportsbook at PHX Arena, the home of the Phoenix Suns NBA franchise.
The facility, the first of its kind inside an NBA arena, will officially close on July 24. FanDuel confirmed this in a notice posted on location at the sportsbook.
AZ Central reported that it will be replaced with a FanDuel-branded lounge, the details of which have not yet been disclosed.
“In-person wagering at the FanDuel Sportsbook located in the Phoenix Suns Arena will permanently cease at the close of business on July 24, as the space is converted to a FanDuel lounge,” a notice stated.
“All payouts beyond this date can be processed via the mail-in process as highlighted on the back of your ticket.”
End of a Short Era for FanDuel
FanDuel opened the in-arena sportsbook on the first day of legal sports betting in Arizona in September 2021. It featured five betting windows, 26 kiosks, 40 TVs, a full-service bar and an outdoor terrace.
However, less than four years later, it will close its doors to make way for another FanDuel venue. Players will still be able to wager online via the FanDuel Sportsbook app.
The closure will seemingly have little impact on FanDuel in Arizona. The state’s most recent monthly report showed gross retail betting revenue in Arizona hit $134,219 during March. This was compared to $18.2 million from online wagering.
Handle also differed greatly between the two. Retail spend via FanDuel in March topped $1.5 million at its retail locations and $252.7 million online.
