Asian gaming operator Silver Heritage has set a February opening date for its new Tiger Palace Resort, Bhairahawa, in Nepal.
The resort, aimed at the burgeoning cross-border trade in gamblers from neighboring India, will cost roughly US$40 million for its first phase and will include a 26,600-square-foot casino with 52 table games and 200 machine games. Plans call for an initial complement of 100 hotel rooms, suites and villas to be expanded to 400 rooms at full build-out. The first phase also will feature a pool and spa, a fitness center, tennis courts, events space and six food and beverage outlets.
Casinos are illegal in most of India, and Silver Heritage believes Tiger Palace will tap into a feeder market of more than 400 million people stretching from Delhi to the Indian states bordering Nepal.
The casino will be the third for ASX-listed Silver Heritage in Nepal, including one in the capital of Kathmandu with 22 table games and 38 EGMs.
The company also manages gaming facilities in Vietnam.
