NCAA President Charlie Baker is no fan of sports betting. He’s seen enough negative elements erupt that he’s fed up. And those ads. Do they have to be so ubiquitous?
Sports betting isn’t going away around the country, but it may be feasible to ban proposition bets involving college games. Baker is pushing for just such a ban, but it’s a difficult get. So is cutting back the advertising.
“So far we’ve managed to work with four states to shut down prop betting on college sports,” he told Fox Sports.
“Sports betting issues are on the rise across the country with prop bets continuing to threaten the integrity and competition and leading to student athletes and professional athletes getting harassed,” Baker said in a statement in March.”The NCAA has been working with states to deal with these threats and many are responding by banning college prop bets.”
Louisiana will ban prop bets on college games, as of August 1. Vermont, Ohio and Maryland already took such a step when it comes to prop bets. Colorado, Arizona, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and Oregon all prohibit them. Illinois, Connecticut and Iowa don’t allow such bets if an in-state team is involved, according to Bleacher Report.
