Fewer Californians are Visiting Las Vegas

There are fewer visitors to Las Vegas from California than there used to be. Those visiting the city are also younger. Those are two takeaways from a report released last week by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Fewer Californians are Visiting Las Vegas

Fewer residents of the Golden State are visiting Las Vegas, according to annual statistics released last week by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The study was based on 3,600 surveys taken at various Las Vegas casinos. This study has been published for more than 40 years. It is used by gaming companies to find out who their customers are and where they come from.

The study showed that under 20 percent of Las Vegas visitors came from Southern California, down from 26 percent two years ago.

The state accounted for 23 percent of all American visitors to Las Vegas in 2018, compared to 31 percent four years ago.

One percent of respondents said their primary purpose was to gamble, demonstrating Las Vegas’s transition into a destination that appeals to all tastes.

The survey also highlighted the younger age of those visiting Las Vegas. Last year the average age was 45, compared to age 50 in 1998.

Millennials became the largest age group visiting the city in 2017. Even so, Baby Boomers and Gen Xers still make up two-thirds of visitors.
