FIFA Policy Encourages Game Integrity

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has launched its Global Integrity Program in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Officials say the program will boost the integrity of European football for all 211 organizations and help prevent match manipulation.

A series of workshops will be provided to each football confederation.

In 2020, FIFA signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.N. agency to fight the influence of organized crime into sports. The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) said several months ago that there has been a 48 percent increase in suspicious betting activity, with a 25 percent increase in the sport of football.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement that the Global Integrity Program is “another important step by FIFA to protect the integrity of football and will play an important role in educating and building capacity within member associations to help fight match-fixing at a local level.”
