Fifth Korean Casino Closes Amid Covid Surge

Grand Korea Leisure has suspended operations at another of its foreigners-only casinos in South Korea as the country battles to tamp down a nationwide surge in Covid-19 infections.

The company shut down its Seven Luck-branded casino in the Busan Lotte Hotel on November 30.

It was the 14th day in South Korea in which new cases of the potentially deadly virus surpassed 300, pushing the total number of infections in the country past the 34,000 mark.

The previous week, GKL shuttered its two foreigners-only casinos in greater Seoul, where the spread of the virus has been the most severe so far.

Market rival Paradise Co. also closed its two properties in the capital, but has not yet indicated whether it would close its casino in Busan.

GKL, meanwhile, is slated to reopen its Seoul venues𑁋at Gangnam COEX and the Gangbuk Millenium Seoul Hilton𑁋this Tuesday, albeit at only 25 percent occupancy.

Current plans for the Busan property call for reopening on December 15.
