Fifth Vicksburg Casino Moving Forward

Portofino Resort in Vicksburg, Mississippi hopes to open the city's fifth casino at the near-downtown site of the former Grand Station Casino barge. City officials are seeking U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approvals on behalf of the proposal as part of the gaming license application process.

Officials in Vicksburg, Mississippi recently asked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to approve a permit for Portofino Resort LLC to install a new elevated walkway at its proposed casino, which would be the fifth in the city.

The mayor and board of aldermen also recently approved filing a floodwall permit application with the Corps. The city operates the floodwall that runs along the Mississippi River and crosses the Portofino property, located at the near-downtown site of the former Grand Station Casino barge, which was removed last year.

Portofino needs the Corps’ approvals in order to proceed with its gaming license application to the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
