Finland to Adopt Scratchcard ID Checks

Veikkaus, Finland’s gaming monopoly, next year will introduce mandatory ID checks on scratchcards, World Casino News reported November 7.

Acceptable ID required to play games such as  Ässä and Casino lottery will be either driver’s license or cards issued by the gambling monopoly itself.

This won’t be implemented for scratchcards until January 1, 2024. Until then the cards will be sold without a required ID. This requirement has been in place for other gambling products since May of 2022.

Veikkaus director of sweepstakes Ville Venojärvi said in a statement: “Conditions for identification of scratchcards are good.” He added, “We have a very large customer base with the identification of coupon games. Identification is already a familiar operating method to our customers.”

He noted that Veikkaus had been one of the first gaming companies to require ID.
