Finland to Crack Down on Illegal Gaming Ads

Finnish police and the country’s transport and communications agency Traficom have confirmed they will work together to end illegal gambling ads broadcast on television and radio in the country.

Only state-run gaming operator Veikkaus can legally promote gambling, and regulations are in place to prevent advertising by international operators. But some illegal ads are still accessible by Finnish viewers.

The goal of the new enforcement partners is to block that access, according to SBC News. Traficom can cancel a company’s broadcast license if it breaches ad regulations.

Finland’s National Institute for Health and Welfare THL previously issued a statement calling for stricter regulations on gambling promotions and said Veikkaus’ marketing should follow the same lines as the state’s health policy communication.
