Fire And Smoke on the Las Vegas Strip

A fire broke out near the convention area of Caesars Palace in the early morning hours of March 21, forcing the evacuation of 140 hotel rooms and part of the casino area. Firefighters put out the fire in less than 30 minutes, and three casino workers were hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Two days earlier, haze in the spa area of the Paris Las Vegas casino triggered an alarm, but no fire was found.

An early-morning fire escalator fire on March 21 forced a partial evacuation of hotel and casino guests at Caesars Palace.

A fire started at the top of the main escalators at the casino’s promenade level next to the convention center and spread to nearby curtain. The resulting smoke entered the ballroom area and then the casino, which forced the evacuation of all nearby areas.

Three workers were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, and the resort evacuated 140 third-floor rooms in the Palace Tower for about two hours, Caesars Entertainment spokeswoman Jennifer Forkish told the Associated Press.

Firefighters contained the blaze within a half hour, and damage estimates are about $100,000, the Associated Press reported.

Two days earlier, Clark County firefighters searched for the source of smoke at the spa area of the Paris Las Vegas casino and resort after someone reported the smoke around 10:30 a.m.

A hotel smoke detector sounded an alarm as a haze filled the area, but no evacuation occurred, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters searched for the source of the smoke for several minutes and left.

In July, a fire at the pool area of the Cosmopolitan forced an evacuation and shut down the popular pool area while undergoing repairs.
