Officials of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi recently announced the tribe will build a second hotel tower at FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan. NGBP Tribal Council Chairman Jamie Struck said the hotel will create additional trips from gaming guests throughout the Midwest, attract new and larger conventions and business meetings and expand the property’s retail market. “Today’s announcement is the first step in the process, as we secure architects and construction management. This is a key step in our strategic plan for FireKeepers to provide for future generations of our tribe,” Struck said.
FireKeepers Chief Executive Officer Kathy George added, “We will build a new tower with a focus on maintaining Four Diamond standards, blending the latest technology with design advances and extensive comforts. When you match a great design with our award-winning guest service, you have a winning combination which will attract additional visitors to southwest Michigan.” A groundbreaking date has not been set, George said.
She noted with occupancy topping 95 percent for the past 12 months, securing a reservation has been challenging for retail guests and larger group business. Additional rooms and meeting space will ease that dilemma, George said, as well as bring new visitors to the area and help the local economy.
FireKeepers Casino Hotel opened in December 2012 and currently has 243 hotel rooms. For the past four consecutive years, the hotel has achieved AAA’s coveted Four Diamond status. The property offers a gaming floor with 3,000 slots and 70 table games, plus a 22-table poker room and bingo venue, along with a variety of dining options and entertainment.
