Despite the ravages of Covid-19, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP), owners of FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan, just contributed combined revenue-sharing payments of more than $15.6 million to the state and local governments.

The state received more than $10.7 million, while the FireKeepers Local Revenue Sharing Board received more than $4.9 million. The payments bring the total contribution by the NHBP to more than $233 million.

“Revenue-sharing distributions are a source of enormous pride for NHBP tribal members as well as the FireKeepers team,” said Jamie Stuck, tribal council chairman. “To produce these numbers after being closed for 12 weeks truly speaks to the ability of our team to adapt to unforeseen and extremely difficult situations while retaining a focus on creating a safe environment for guests and delivering award-winning service.”

FireKeepers employs 1,802 people and is one of the region’s leading employers. During the 12-week closure, the casino paid out more than $10 million in wages and benefits to displaced team members. FireKeepers was recently recognized by Forbes as one of the Best Mid-Sized Employers and a Best In-State Employer for these efforts.

“The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi are the best owners in the hospitality industry,” said Kathy George, CEO at FireKeepers Casino Hotel. “I am so proud of this group of team members who have risen above the countless challenges this past year has presented and go above and beyond for our valued guests day after day.”
