FireKeepers Opens Gapi Coffee Shop

Gapi is the Potawatomi word for coffee and also the name of the new coffee shop at FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan. The new establishment offers coffee drinks plus soups, sandwiches, pastries, bread and ice cream. The fresh-roasted coffee is provided by a partnership with Five Lakes Coffee.

FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan recently held a grand opening for its new coffee shop Gapi Coffee & Sweets. Gapi is the Potawatomi word for coffee. The new establishment offers coffee drinks plus soups, sandwiches, pastries, bread and ice cream.

Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Council Chairman Jamie Stuck said, “Gapi is another example of our continued foresight providing better amenities, keeping FireKeepers the casino and hotel of choice while providing our one-of-a-kind established customer service, being welcoming, engaging, enthusiastic and appreciative to our patrons.” The store replaced the Bigby Coffee franchise outlet.

Gapi’s coffee comes from a partnership with Five Lakes Coffee. Jared Smith, one of Five Lakes owners, said, “My brother and I have a passion for fresh-roasted coffee. We’re just really excited about bringing that from our Sturgis roastery to here in this area, providing great tasting coffee.”

At Gapi’s grand opening, Stuck said FireKeepers officials soon will begin the search for an architect and construction manager for the property’s second hotel tower, announced in July. He said the hotel tower will include 200 new guest rooms and possibly another restaurant and larger meeting areas.
