The first International eGames will be held at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The two-day “pop-up” international eSports event, backed by the British government, will offer players from the U.K., Canada, U.S., Brazil and other nations to compete for gold, silver or bronze medal by participating in a variety of games. Each team will consist of male and female players age 18 and over. No prize money will be awarded.
Minister for Culture Ed Vaizey said, “The eGames promises to be an exciting venture that will give eSports competitors across the U.K. even more opportunities to showcase their talents on an international stage. I welcome the ambitions of the IEGC and their efforts to promote the U.K. as a leading nation in the eSports sector.”
