West Flagler and Associates has another friend in its quest to challenge the Seminole Tribe’s exclusivity in sports betting. An anti-gaming group known as Florida Gambling Opponents (FGO) has filed an amicus brief in support of the petition before the U.S. Supreme Court.
The group consists of local businesses and community folks who take issue with any expansion of gambling in the state without a vote. FGO differs from the better-known No Casinos Inc., which filed a similar brief as part of the Florida State Supreme Court matter.
In the brief, FGO said the Department of the Interior defied its statutory duty by signing off on the compact between the Seminoles and the state. Specifically, the brief takes issue with the failure to insist in securing a vote on the expansion, according to SBC Americas.
The brief also opposed the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act authorization of mobile sports betting outside tribal lands based on the location of the server.
Sports betting attorney Daniel Wallach also filed a brief in the case. The DOI received an extension to respond to these new developments until April 12.
