The Florida Lottery announced at a public meeting last week that it will be extending the contract of Scientific Games as its primary supplier of scratch-off tickets and support. The lottery has contracted with Scientific Games for more than 30 years.
The move comes after the lottery set a record in the 2017-18 fiscal year, contributing $1.7 billion to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund. Scientific has estimated that it will generate $8.5 billion in additional education funds for Florida students over the five-year extension, including the financing of an additional 626,000 Bright Futures Scholarships in the years ahead.
As Florida Politics recently reported, the Lottery Revenue Estimating Conference “reported in a Friday meeting that scratch-off sales are through the roof—coming in $50 million higher than what the lottery estimated for the fiscal year so far. Much of that growth was attributed to the lottery’s new $10 scratch-off ticket.”
