Flutter Entertainment chose Amy Howe as the new CEO of FanDuel on October 4, replacing Matt King, who resigned in July after four years. Howe joined the company less than two years ago as president. Prior to her hire, she served as COO for Ticketmaster.
During his tenure, King led FanDuel’s metamorphosis from daily fantasy sports company to a market leader in sports betting. With Howe as president, FanDuel maintained a 40 to 50 percent market share, according to Legal Sports Report.
“I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Amy as our new U.S. CEO,” Flutter CEO Peter Jackson said in a release. “Since joining the business at the start of this year she has done an excellent job of leading our commercial functions and ensuring that we execute well at this critical phase of growth for our business.
Howe’s appointment could rekindle talks about going public in the U.S. with FanDuel. Earlier in the year, valuations considered FanDuel about $35 billion.
“Since joining the business, I have been very impressed by the quality of our team and the strategic advantages we enjoy in terms of brand reach, product quality and the broad expertise we leverage from being part of the wider Flutter Group,” Howe said in the release. “That said, we must avoid complacency and remain (focused) on executing on our long-term strategy to build the embedded value of the business.”
Howe worked for McKinsey, a consulting firm, for 15 years, wearing many hats. On leaving FanDuel, King joined apparel company Fanatics, ready to lead the company as it ponders sports betting and trading cards.
