Former Kangwon CEO Sentenced to Prison

The former CEO of South Korean casino Kangwon Land has been sentenced to three years prison for preferential hiring practices. Choi Hung-jib was immediately taken into custody after the ruling.

Choi Hung-jib, former CEO of Kangwon Land Co., has been sentenced to three years in prison for illegal hiring practices. According to reports, the CEO ensured that job candidates linked to influential politicians were given preferential treatment. The illegal practices were in effect from 2011 to 2014.

In 2018, two South Korean lawmakers were also indicted in connection to the job placement scandal, reported Asia Gaming Brief. Representatives Kweon Seong-dong and Yeom Dong-yeol were charged with abuse of power and business interference but were not detained.

Choi Hung-jib was immediately jailed following the court ruling, which took place at the Chuncheon District Court.
