Former Mohegan Tribal Chairman Kevin Brown, who resigned as chairman in February, has also stepped down from the tribal council, which he first joined in 2013.
He left the chairmanship for “personal reasons,” but is reportedly leaving the council after an independent investigation of alleged violations of the tribe’s code of ethics.
The investigation was conducted for Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment by an outside company.
Although MGE has not issued any statement’s about Brown’s departure, it likely will have to give some explanation to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which requires that companies registered with the SEC must announce major events such as departure of directors and officers.
MGE operates the Mohegan Sun, the Mohegan Sun Pocono in Pennsylvania, and manages several casinos in U.S. states and Canada.
His departure as chairman came without warning shortly after he spoke at an MGE quarterly earnings call and less than two weeks after appearing before a Connecticut legislature committee mulling gaming bills.
The tribe is in the middle of an election for four members of the nine-member council, which also serves as the MGE board of directors. A special election will need to be held for Brown’s seat, according to reports.
