Former Regulatory Official Joins Greenberg Traurig

Greenberg Traurig has hired Emily A. Mattison, former general counsel of the Illinois Gaming Board, as counsel in the firm’s gaming practice.

Emily A. Mattison has joined the Chicago office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP as of counsel in the global gaming practice. She will focus her practice on gaming regulatory compliance, licensure and corporate counseling. Mattison joins the firm from the Illinois Gaming Board, where she served as general counsel.

“Gaming expansion makes headlines, but the evolution of the global market is where we remain focused,” said Martha A. Sabol, co-chair of the firm’s global gaming practice. “Emily has firsthand experience with the regulation and development of a gaming market that is both emerging and maturing, and we are very fortunate to have her join our team.”

Mattison spent five years with the Illinois Gaming Board. During her tenure there, she guided the regulatory approach to an expanding gaming industry in Illinois, drafting practical policies and rules amid shifting legislative constraints. She counseled the gaming board on interpretation of Illinois law, disciplinary matters involving licensees, and settlement negotiations. She leverages her prior experience in the Illinois governor’s office as liaison for multiple state agencies, providing advice on state and federal law, policy, regulation and contract interpretation.
