Four Gaming Operators Sue Andorra

Four gaming operators that lost a bid to operate a casino in the tiny nation of Andorra, have sued to overturn the decision. They claim that the company that won the license, Jocs SA, is unqualified to operate a casino.

Four gaming operators who bid on a casino project in the tiny Pyrenees’ principality of Andorra have sued the country with the goal of forcing it to annul its awarding of its sole national casino license to Jocs SA.

The group includes Casinos Austria, Genting Group, Partouche France and Grupo CIRSA. Last October when the Gaming Control Board of the country awarded the license to Jocs’ €10 million bid, the group protested, citing “grave tender process indiscretions.” Jocs is a regionally based company.

The four also claim that they have identified a number of reasons why they believe the winner is unable to carry out the terms of the license.

The lawsuit, besides seeking to annul the decision, also seeks to expel Jocs SA as a licensed gaming operator, claiming that Jocs interfered with the original bidding process.
