Foxwoods Announces Weekday Closures, Layoffs

As business continues to drop, Foxwoods Resort Casino announced table games and some slots will be closed at Rainmaker Casino on weekdays and a number of employees will be laid off. Chief Executive Officer Scott Butera said more changes are to be expected as new casinos open in nearby states.

Officials at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut recently announced  in order to control costs and gaming revenue continues to decline, table games and some slot machines at Rainmaker Casino will be closed on weekdays and employees will be laid off. Rainmaker is one of six casinos on the Foxwoods property.

Foxwoods said both management and hourly employees will be affected, but officials would not say how many jobs will be eliminated. Dealers union officials said they had not yet heard layoff details.

In a statement Foxwoods Chief Executive Officer Scott Butera said as the competitive landscape continues to change, the casino most likely will experience further declines in business as new casinos open in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York.

Earlier this year, Foxwoods laid off more than 100 dealers. Its workforce totals nearly 6,000 employees.
