Later this fall the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation will move off the U.S. mainland for the first time with Foxwoods El San Juan Casino, a joint venture on Puerto Rich with LionGrove.
With the soft opening in a few weeks, the grand opening will follow early in the New Year said Rodney Butler, chairman of the Pequots.
He told Caribbean Journal Invest, “When Foxwoods El San Juan opens its doors, guests will be able to experience an array of the newest slot machines and table games as well as first-class service that complements the resort’s well-appointed luxury accommodations and amenities.”
The renovation sought to preserve the venerable property’s “rich history and culture,” said Butler. “We truly believe the casino’s new identity beautifully pays homage to the casino’s legendary past—as well as the feel of Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, one of the strongest casino brands in the world.”
LionGrove will run the hotel side. Co-founder Andre Nodarse-Leon said several months ago that a total of $140 million has been invested in renovations going back six years. This doubled the size of the casino floor and reopened an entertainment venue.
Butler added, “Pairing the tribe’s expertise with the rich local market experience between LionGrove and Fairmont, two strong and experienced hospitality leaders, together we knew we could deliver a new offering the residents of Puerto Rico and tourists will admire and enjoy.”
