Five other regional bidders in play
Connecticut’s Foxwoods casino organization and Muss Development of New York City presented a “sketch plan” of their proposed Catskills casino project to the community last week.
Several hundred people gathered at Liberty High School to view renderings of the project, which would have a casino and hotel, a sports complex, an equestrian center and a 7,500-square-foot spa, along with 27 holes of golf and a lake- side marina. The land is adjacent to the old Grossinger’s resort.
Sal Semola, president of Foxwoods Catskills Resort said the resort would fit right in with the woodsy environment, according to the Hudson Valley Times-Herald Record. “This is first and foremost a resort,” Semola said. “It just happens to be a casino.”
The project is one of at least six contenders for two Catskill casino licenses. A total of four upstate casinos will be chosen in three regions: the Capital/Saratoga region, the Southern Tier and the Catskills/Hudson Valley. Governor Andrew Cuomo has said the selections will be made this fall.
