France Sets Guidelines for Casino Cruises

Starting July 1, French casino boats must abide by new rules for gaming operations. Authorized ships may offer up to 15 gaming machines for terms of up to 15 years. Tables are permitted in international waters.

The French government has issued a new decree regulating gaming on casino cruise ships and ferries, according to reports. The new regulations, effective July 1, limit gaming machines to 15 on boats such as ferries that run on regular domestic routes. Vessels that operate in international waters may also offer table games.

Ship owners must be authorized by the French Minister of the Interior, which can grant licensure for up to 15 years. The ministry must also approve all staff members.
