France to Curb Gaming Ad ‘Oversaturation’

France’s national gaming authority, L’Autorité nationale des jeux (ANJ) is going after what it calls an “oversaturation” of gaming ads.

The regulator’s ire was roused during the Euro 2020 tournament, “a line was crossed” by the volume of ads. That prompted ANJ to issue a five-point action plan to reduce the “intensity” of ads. It added that such advertising should exist primarily to help consumers find legal betting providers as opposed to offshore operators.

ANJ said it plans to forbid ads that “trivialize” gaming and “those containing unfounded statements on the chances of winning” or implying that gaming can improve social status.
