French gaming operator Lucien Barrière will plow €3.78 million (US$.2 million) in improvements into its Casino Barrière Dinard as a condition of its new 15-year license.
In December, the city council of Dinard (Ille-et-Vilaine) unanimously voted to renew the contract starting May 1. A subsidiary of the Barrière group manages the casino.
As part of the makeover, the restaurant will be moved to make way for a larger gaming floor. A 15 percent tax rate will bring an estimated €1.8 million per year to the city.
Barriere is also planning to renovate its casino in the seaside Var community of Saint-Raphael. According to a December report from G3Newswire, the Paris-based firm will demolish a brasserie devastated by a 2012 fire and use the space for a new 12,916-squar-foot gaming space. The work is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
“It will be one of the most beautiful places in Saint-Raphael,” said
General Manager Hilario Aznar. “On the terrace will be a restaurant that will be at least double in size also with a lounge bar and a smoking area containing between 30 to 50 slots. It is possible that we will add gaming tables and some slots to exceed the current 150 machines. This is a project based on restoration as well as new slots. We are in a highly competitive market with another casino only two kilometers away, and we have to fight. It’s a constant battle.”
Barriere operates more than 20 casinos in France including the nearby Casino Barriere Sainte-Maxine.
